Capital Region Connection in Action is a region-wide initiative focused on strengthening neighbourly connection, reducing isolation, and building more resilient, supportive communities. This spring, we’re hosting two free, interactive workshops designed to help people build practical skills and confidence for connecting with others where they live:
Creating a Village: The Power of Community Connections in Turbulent Times
đź“… Thursday, April 16 | 7 – 9pm | 📍Victoria Scottish Community Centre
Growing a Village: Practical Skills for Building Neighbourly Connections
đź“… Thursday, May 14 | 7 – 9pm | 📍Victoria Scottish Community Centre
These free community workshops will be followed by a broader community activation during Loneliness Awareness Week (June 8-14, 2026), with activities happening across the region.
The City of Victoria will be making upgrades to the Point Ellice Bridge (Bay Street Bridge). Work includes replacing the main deck joint that allows the bridge to expand and shrink with temperature changes. Crews will also be improving the 65-year-old drainage system. This project is scheduled to start on February 17, 2026, and is expected to take four months to complete.
While work is underway you can expect the following impacts:
•    Eastbound traffic across the bridge (Victoria West towards downtown) will be closed 24/7 for up to four months. Detours with clear signage will guide eastbound traffic.
•    Eastbound cyclists can dismount and walk with pedestrians to cross eastbound.
•    Westbound traffic will remain open, and pedestrian and wheelchair access will be maintained at all times.
•    Construction noise.
The CRD discovered a failing retaining wall on private property above the Galloping Goose Trail.
The failing structure poses a risk to trail users and to critical sewer infrastructure owned by both the CRD and the City of Victoria, and will be closed while the CRD is focused on identifying options to safely to re-open the trail and mitigate risks in the short term, while also evaluating longer-term repair solutions for the privately owned structures. Keep up to date with the CRD’s work below.
Let’s Talk Live, a Victoria-based community health initiative dedicated to reducing loneliness and strengthening social connection, is expanding its weekly programming with the launch of Let’s Talk Saturdays @ Murchie’s, beginning Saturday, January 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Let’s Talk gatherings create welcoming, informal spaces where people are invited to sit down with someone new and engage in simple, face-to-face conversation. There is no agenda, no cost, and no requirement to register—participants can drop in at any time during the event window.
It is part of a growing movement focused on addressing social isolation and supporting mental wellbeing through everyday, in-person connection. The initiative welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds and emphasizes inclusivity, accessibility, and community care.
