About our Facility:
Meet the Staff! Johanne Thompson- Executive Director Johanne grew up in South-Western Ontario and attended the University of Windsor and earned degrees in Psychology (2000) and Music Therapy (2001). She completed her Music Therapy Internship at Oak Bay Lodge working with seniors with various stages of dementia and became an Accredited music therapist in 2005. She has worked in Social Services Management for the past decade, including a position as Director of Recreation at a senior’s residence, and Coordinator of the Sooke Region Volunteer Centre. She has also managed group homes for adults with developmental disabilities, and mental health diagnoses. In her spare time, Johanne enjoys being on stage and has performed in productions with the Sooke Harbour Players, as a Narrator in Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat (2010), and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance (2011). She has also directed productions of Alice in Wonderland Jr. with Sooke Harbour Players, and The Jungle Book for the Sooke Youth Show Choir. Out of School Care Attendant Community Gardens Interested in doing some gardening and learning more about food security? We’re looking for volunteers to help in our Community Gardens! Banfield park is home to three awesome gardens. We need help from the community to keep them that way! The VWCA is following social distancing guidelines and we have lots of learning opportunities. Tasks may include, weeding, watering, harvesting, pruning, mulching, etc. If you would like to share your growing knowledge or learn more about growing your own food, consider joining!
