Get Involved! Are you interested in making a difference in your community? Here at Victoria West Community Association, we pride ourselves on our dedication to the community. With so many different activities going on at our centre daily, we have volunteer opportunities for all backgrounds and schedules. Whether you have an interest in the behind the scenes planning or day of festivities, there’s something for everyone. Children and Youth Programs Have a passion for working with children and youth? Consider volunteering at Community Centre drop-in activities. Criminal record check and previous experience volunteering with youth required. Community Gardens Interested in doing some gardening and learning more about food security? We're looking for volunteers to help in our Community Gardens! Banfield park is home to three awesome gardens. We need help from the community to keep them that way! The VWCA is following social distancing guidelines and we have lots of learning opportunities. Tasks may include, weeding, watering, harvesting, pruning, mulching, etc. If you would like to share your growing knowledge or learn more about growing your own food, consider joining! Facility Rental
Looking for a meeting room to rent? Or room to host your event or class? Or to book a birthday party? Check out the rooms available to rent at Victoria West Community Centre, located beside beautiful Banfield Park and the Gorge waterway. You can also rent the gym or the kitchen for your event. The Centre has easy access to a playground, tennis courts and trails, with the Galloping Goose Trail just minutes away. Our lovely outdoor patio overlooks the Gorge Waterway and park green space, with two large picnic table sitting areas. A city-maintained parking lot is located beside the Centre. Internet access for the whole facility. Located beside beautiful Banfield Park and the Gorge waterway. City-maintained parking lots are located beside the center and beside the tennis courts. Birthday Parties Book your child’s Birthday Party at Vic West Community Centre. Our Birthday Parties take place on Saturdays 10:00am - 1:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Contact us at 250-590-8922 to organize your party. We may be able to accommodate other requests such as additional time, subject to availability. All party bookings require payment at the time of booking. We recommend booking your party well in advance, as parties tend to book up quickly. Kindergym Birthday (Ages 1-5 years) Come and enjoy 2 hours of play in our gym with our Kindergym toys! We’ve got ride-on cars, slides, blocks, teeter totter, toddler bouncy castle, and more! Party also includes the use of our kitchen and a space for cake and presents as well as the use of tables and chairs. $200 + tax Floor Hockey Party (Ages 5+) The perfect party for the hockey enthusiast! Bring your friends and enjoy our gymnasium for an epic floor hockey game! Party includes hockey goals, goalie gear, and floor hockey sticks. Plus, the use of our kitchen and a space for cake and presents. Total booking time is 3 hours to allow for 30 minutes of set-up time, and 30 minutes of clean-up time. We recommend that all kids wear a full cage hockey helmet and gloves. $200 + tax Sports Party (Ages 5+) Choose from Indoor Soccer, Basketball or Dodgeball! Or maybe you want to play all three! Bring your friends and enjoy our gymnasium for a full out sports party! Party includes indoor soccer balls, basketballs, and/or dodgeballs. Plus, the use of our kitchen and a space for cake and presents. Total booking time is 3 hours to allow for 30 minutes of set-up time, and 30 minutes of clean-up time. $170 + tax Our Rooms Gym 48 x 29 ft sprung wood floor 174 standing or 125 seated No windows $40/hr or $35/hr nonprofit. Fireplace room 35 x 19 ft chairs and tables to seat 34 can be added electric fireplace wooden floors large windows and park view $45/hr or $40/hr non profit. Reading Room 18 x 12 ft seats 10 large window with park view carpeted floor phone and internet access good for small groups. Wall mounted 42" TV $25/hr or $20/hr non profit. Garden Room 58 x 12 ft seats 34 tile floor large windows with park view outdoor exit to Banfield park $30/hr or $25/hr non profit. Community Kitchen 14 x 15 ft 8-10 person standing capacity Tile floor, 3 stainless steel sinks, stove, fridge, microwave, stainless steel prep table, commercial dishwasher $35/hr or $30/hr non profit Outdoor Patio This space with a fabulous view of the park and Gorge Waterway is accessed through the common area or the park. $40/hr or $35/hr non-profit rate, or $20/hr when booked with another space For rentals outside of regular operating hours, a $25/ hour staff charge will apply. Please contact the rental coordinator for additional information. Rental Insurance Policies: Renters are required to demonstrate proof of insurance that indemnifies the Victoria West Community Association of any liability in the following rental situations: Events that invite the public into the building (depending on size and nature of the event); Bookings involving multi-day workshops/retreats/events; and Events that include liquor and/or food sales. Please check with Centre staff at time of booking to determine if your rental requires insurance or not. There are a number of ways that these insurance requirements can be met: The Victoria West Community Association should be added to renter’s insurance policy as “additionally insured.” A business/organization can add a rider to their insurance policy that includes our facility for one time or multiple uses. SUNDAY BOOKINGS WILL BE CHARGED A $25/hr STAFF SURCHARGE Single Room and/or Single Day Booking Policies: Full payment and a signed rental agreement are due at the time of booking. If the booking is made by phone payment, the signed rental agreement must be returned by fax or email within 48 hours. Bookings are not guaranteed until full payment is received. Cancellation/Refund Policy for One Time Rentals: If the Community Centre is notified of a cancellation at least 5 working days prior to the rental date, the amount originally paid for the booking will be refunded. If a cancellation is made less than five working days prior to the rental date, the amount paid will refunded minus 25% of the booking fee (minimum $25). If you do not turn up for your booking, and you have not contacted the Centre to cancel the booking, there is no refund. A damage deposit of $250 may be required to secure events for more than 75 people or any event where alcohol is served. Multi-Day and/or Multi-Room Rental Booking Policy: A security deposit of 10% of the total rental cost is required to hold the date(s). The security deposit is due at the time of booking. [...]
