BC Hydro weekly update #21 – marine schedule within the Gorge Waterway and work within Viaduct Park

We continue to push to get material over the conduits, both in the water and in the foreshore/riparian areas, so we have enough material cover to pull the power cable thru the conduits. This means three days of night work at Viaduct Park starting tonight thru Friday night – see below on the work within the parks. Most people on this e-list are interested in the marine activities though there are others interested in the noise.

Gorge Waterway marine work by barges:

The marine work is taking place Monday to Saturday. This is the approximate schedule of work as it relates to the trenching filling work:

• September 17-19: start around 9:00 am and finish as late as 8:00 pm.
• September 21-24: start around noon and finish around 8:30 pm.
• September 25-26: start around 11:00 am and finish around 8:30 pm.

The work may go until the end of the month though there is a scenario where it could be done by September 25.

Please continue to follow signage and buoys, and crew and pilot boat instruction, as you move through the marine work area. There is 50 metre no swim zone around the work area, with the no swim zone set at 90 metres on the Banfield Park side. Please obey signage. Weekly water quality testing continues to be in line with pre-construction testing.

Work within Viaduct Park:

Generally, the work is 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Saturday.

The next week or so will shift to a longer work window. We are providing notice of some 24/7 work that will take place over three days starting tonight within Viaduct Park and the foreshore/riparian area. The reason for the 24/7 work is to follow the ocean tides and complete backfilling over the cable conduits. We need the conduits fully covered with material, including the marine area, in order to allow us to pull the cable from the vault at Viaduct Park to the vault at Banfield Park. The tide window over the next few days will allow us to cover the conduits and try to maintain schedule.

• September 16, 17 and 18: 24/7 work.
• September 19: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• September 21-23: start around 5:00-5:30 am and finish around 5:00 pm.
• September 24-25: start around 6:00-6:30 am and finish around 5:00 pm.
• September 26: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Work within Banfield Park:

Generally, that work is 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Saturday. The foreshore and riparian work area is much smaller here compared to Viaduct Park. It’s also easier access.
